The Government of Republic of Zambia (GRZ) has requested World Bank financing for the Electricity Supply Access Project (ESAP). The objective of the project is to increase electricity access in targeted rural and peri-urban areas and enhance the enabling environment for accelerated electrification in Zambia. The project will comprise three components namely; on-grid electricity access expansion, off-grid electricity access expansion and technical assistance. The Project is consistent with the long-term development objectives of the GRZ, as articulated in the Vision 2030 and the recently approved Seventh National Development Plan (7th NDP).

ZESCO Ltd embarked on a project to construct a new electricity transmission line to Northern, Muchinga and Luapula Provinces. Due to increase in demand, the capacity of the existing lines could not sustain quality power supply. The existing 66kV power transmission lines that supply power to these provinces where constructed almost a decade ago when demand for power was very low. The increased economic and social activities coupled with an increase in the population resulted in the three provinces experiencing low voltages. The 2016 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank this year took place in Lusaka at Mulungushi International Conference Centre from the 23rd to 27th, May 2016. The theme of this year’s meetings was “Energy and Climate Change”, and draws on one of the Bank’s “High 5” priority areas, namely to “Light up and Power Africa”.

As part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process, a Scoping (stakeholder consultative) Meeting will be held for the construction of the Waterworks-Chawama- Chilanga-Lusaka West 132kV transmission line. This will accord stakeholders an opportunity to air their views and concerns as they relate to the development and implementation of the proposed transmission line. The meeting will take place at Sandy's Creation on Thursday 18 March, 2016 at 10:00 hours. Participation is free.
ZESCO has observed with concern, an increase in electrical accidents which are occurring mainly, on the customer’s side of the electrical network. The chances of these accidents happening in the rain season are further increased because of the wet ground conditions which reduce ground resistance.

We make reference to the shutdown notice issued on Thursday 7th January, 2016 regarding maintenance works at Leopards Hill Sub-station from 13th to 18th January 2016. We wish to clarify the misunderstanding and state that the maintenance works will be carried out over the Five (5) days period, BUT WILL NOT RESULT IN INCREASED POWER OUTAGES as the works will coincide with the current load management schedule.
His Excellency the President Edgar Lungu is set to commission the 381 kilometers, 330 kV Pensulo- Kasama Grid transmission line and substation today 15th December, 2015 in Kasama District in Northern Province.
ZESCO recently installed a 25 Kilo Watt (KW) solar power plant, complete with Photo Voltaic (PV) panels, batteries, Charger controller, Inverter and Change-over switch at parliament building; powering emergency lighting, the public address system, monitors and computers in the parliament chamber. The Hybrid mini power plant replaces the old Uninterruptable power supply (UPS) system which had become obsolete.
