Kariba North Bank PS
KARIBA NORTH BANK POWER STATION is the biggest underground Hydro Power Station in Zambia with an installed capacity of 1,080 MW. The Plant consists of 6 generating units rated at 180MW each. The first four units were commissioned in 1976-1977 with an initial capacity of 600 MW. The Power Station was rehabilitated, uprated and extended to 1,080 MW from 2002 – 2014. The Kariba North Bank Power Station is of high importance in that it is strategically located on the Northern Bank of the mighty man-made Kariba Dam on the Zambezi River. The Kariba Dam provides for the large reservoir that is used for storage of water during the rainy season that in turn enables the Power Station to generate electricity through the year.
