ZESCO BOARD TOURS SOME CRITITAL ELECTRICITY INSTALLATIONS IN NDOLA

The ZESCO Board of Directors, led by the Board Chairperson, Mr. Vickson Nc’ube yesterday, Wednesday, 10 June 2025 undertook some scheduled activities in Ndola which included site visitation to some critical electricity installations such as Skyways Substation, Elsewedy, Ndola Energy and the ZESCO United recreation and sport facility, Monkey Fountain.

The purpose of the visit was to appreciate the distribution network on the Copperbelt ahead of their scheduled engagement meetings with the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) and Mopani Copper Mine.

The Board who are in Ndola ahead of their 89th Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday, 12, June 2025 was accompanied by the Chief Operation Officer, Eng. Peter Chamfya and some members of the Corporate Executive Team who included, Director – Corporate Support Services, Ms. Chama Nsabika, Director – Transmission, Operation and Trade, Eng. Lioko Sitali and Deputy Director – Treasury and Investment Mr. Garry Monga. Also in the company were the hosts, The Divisional Manager for North – Eng. Kennedy Muchanga and Senior Regional Manager – Ndola Region, Eng. Simon Nyirongo.

The Board learnt that the 66/33/11kv Skyways Substation which is a shared resource between ZESCO and CEC is a critical installation and a hub of electricity on the Copperbelt.

They also took time to pay a courtesy call at the Copperbelt Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Mwanza who echoed on the importance of ZESCO to the Copperbelt Province being a mining engine of the country.

Mr. Banda commended ZESCO for its efforts in promoting diversification and Energy Mix in the wake of the weather induced power deficit that has greatly affected the hydro generation.

The PS also bemoaned the high levels of vandalism on the Copperbelt adding that the vice is detrimental and retrogressive to the corporation. As part of the mitigation measure, he implored ZESCO to initiate a deliberate plan to engage the civic leaders and intensify the anti-vandalism sensitization campaign.

Tomorrow, Friday 12, June 2025, the Board is expected to be Kitwe for a continued series of activities which include infrastructure inspections, and engagement meeting with CEC and Mopani Copper Mine.
